Shawnee Tales

The Shawnee auction page on Facebook had a great listing for a Smiley cookie jar with a blue bib sporting a goatee - beautiful jar and was fun to watch the bids. Most jars with hair are on yellow bibs with exception of the red heads which are on green bibs but the blue bibs are hard to find - legitimate ones.
Here is a picture of the authentic blue bib that sold on the Facebook auction site - I love the idea of this page but one drawback is open bidding where so many of us are friends and hesitant to bid against one another.
Recently several doctored jars are being listed that are really defrauding the newer or uninformed collectors - several listing with butterflies, bees and hair have been listed out of Illinois recently and sadly a couple may have actually sold.
Another collector sent in pictures of some of his lamps - not certain if the shades are original but definitely vintage regardless. Always fun to find considering the age of these pieces and be able to locate them in good condition. The few I have ever seen out and about have never had shades at all.
Last month I asked anyone going to Pottery Festival to please send us a report - no one sent in any information.
   Until next month........

From the Educational and Information Dept - The following pictures were publicly displayed on Ebay over a period of time. None appear to be traditional Vintage Shawnee factory add-ons. If you like them buy them. If you are looking for vintage Shawnee, all I can say is Buyer Beware. For newer Shawnee collectors, check this link for a review of Shawnee pottery problems. Doug

Well, the dog days of August are here - hope everyone is surviving the hot summer - so many areas are as hot as Arizona and crippled with high humidity as well.
