Shawnee Tales

I will be so glad when this election is OVER! Definitely finding it a drawback to still have a landline and even getting solicitation calls on my cell phone!

Fall has finally arrived in Arizona with the temperatures dropping into the 70's and 80's. Now if only the pandemic would end and we could resume normal activities and be on the hunt for our pottery!

A member sent a wonderful article on the Sunflower line - so appreciate the contribution! She has such a gift for writing and always comes through!
"This has been a beautiful fall for sunflowers! One fun fall activity is visiting a local farm. So many have pick your own pumpkins, apple cider drinks, farm animals on display for pictures and petting, hay bale mazes and hay rides through acres and acres of sunflowers! There's nothing quite as pretty as being surrounded by these stately, beautiful flowers!

Maybe Robert Heckman had been on such a farm , where he drew his inspiration for the creation of the Sunflower line for Shawnee Pottery Company, patented in 1947. This line consists of 7 pieces; the ball jug, the coffee maker, teapot, ball jug creamer, the covered sugar or grease jar, the table salt and pepper shakers and the range salt and pepper shakers. The sunflowers, on this line, are embossed and hand painted. Occasionally you can find gold trimmed pieces! And if you're really, really lucky, you may find the platinum sunflower teapot, stamped on the bottom Le Mieux China Platinum Hand Decorated. Also marked U.S.A.!

So if you have some, or all, of these lovely sunflower pieces, you can enjoy that nostalgic fall feeling anytime of the year!"
Found an interesting jar recently - as many of you know I am a die hard fanatic of decals from Bo Peeps, Grannys, cookie jars, shakers and chanticleers. Have not seen this combination before and wondering if others have. If so could you please send your pictures!
Working on a bit about some bank jars for next month. Hope everyone is well and have a Happy Thanksgiving albeit different from most years with social distancing. Stay safe!

Until next month,
